Doggie Bow Ties

Well, the quilt show is coming soon and  I was trying to think of things to make and ways to help out. What a challenge!  I already volunteered myself into making crocheted jewelry the day of the sale which means I can’t volunteer helping at the quilt guild table. I made a few things, button bracelets, the thimble holder, and the needle book,  but I feel like I should do more (what is up with me?). Well, that I-need-to-do-more feeling led to a clean up of my sewing room….don’t get crazy, a little part of the sewing room. I don’t have time for an overhaul. What I found was doggie bow ties that I made and planned to sell…and never did. Yeah, yeah, I know. The best laid plans and all that.

There’s something about a bow tie. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s all the old movies I watched with the oh-so-handsome, debonair leading man wearing a bow tie.  The whole package. Sigh.

So, I brought in a bag of the ties….not a big bag, about 10 ties, and they were a bit hit. The members loved them. I even have a stuffed Scooby Do to model them. He looks pretty dapper with a tie on, don’t you think?  I do.

If you make it to the show….The Trenton Quilt Show in Trenton, Florida, March 18….stop by the Spring House Quilter’s table and you can see the bow ties in person. I’ll be in the Ice House (where the stitching magic happens) or in the courtyard crocheting away. Stop and visit. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Well, back to listing wonderful patterns in the GoofingOff Sewing shop. Oh, I forgot to tell you. I am listing lots of patterns from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s in the shop. Binge  listing. Quite a few children’s patterns in all sizes. Take a peak when you have a chance.

Lavender and Lace Cross Stitch

Lavender and Lace. Just the three words bring to mind elegantly dressed ladies, plush upholstered furniture, and high tea….love my tea. Well, Lavender and Lace also refers to beautiful cross stitch patterns designed by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum.

Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum was an American cross stitch designer known for her Victorian angel designs. Her designs are beautiful. She published the designs under the business name “Told in a Garden”.

Two completed works hang on the wall at the Suwannee Valley Cross Stitch shop where I play, er, stitch. Truly a feast for the eyes.

Well, as luck would have it, I had the good fortune to acquire several of the Lavender & Lace and Butternut Road patterns, or charts. Here’s what is new to the PatternHaus shop.

Quilt Show Goodies To Sell

Certain responsibilities come with becoming a member of a quilting guild. For example, dues, selling quilt raffle tickets, community service projects, and making things to sell at the next quilt show. Trenton, Florida is the home of a pretty big quilt show that takes place every year during March. Many of the guilds in north central Florida show their work at the show and the Springhouse Quilters are no exception. Everyone makes something to sell according to their skill level. Some of these ladies are incredible quilt artists and have come up with great items that have a “handmade, not homemade” look. I am not nearly as good at the sewing machine as they are but I do like to stitch so I came up with something else…..embroidered felt art. Here’s my birds:

The big bird is a needle book, embroidery floss on red felt. The little guy is a thimble holder…and yes, there’ll be  a thimble in it..but there isn’t one in this picture.

Cute little guys.

Hope they fly their way into someone’s heart.

 

GoofingOff’s Friday Freebie

Today’s Friday Freebie is a day late but awesome just the same. It is a flower wreath by Jacquelynne Steves. The design is suitable for embroidery, applique, needlepoint, or punch embroidery. It can be done in pastels for springs, orange, brown, and yellow for fall, or silver (or gold) with red berries for the holidays.

Sit and Sew at the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop

Happy Thursday! 

Yesterday I took a trip to one of my favorite sewing/quilt shops for supplies (Yes, I needed more fabric….stop laughing). I spent quite a while just walking around…until I realized I was getting lost in the fabric. Ever do that? I’m sure I’m not the only one. 

 

Anyway, while checking out I noticed this adorable quilt hanging on the wall. One of our local quilters, Karen Brake, made this lovely and is going to teach others to do the same. 

I don’t know if anyone remembers but a few months ago I sat in at the monthly Sit and Sew. It was wonderful. I could sew for hours, get tips, have lunch with good company, and not be disturbed by the phone, dogs (please walk me, whine, whine), hubby, or something on the stove (Babe, are you cooking something? Oops). I watched Karen as she started the table runner and was amazed by her work. She is also quite knowledgeable and taught me how to do French seams on the pillowcases I was making. Mais oui!

 

If anyone lives in this area….as in North Florida…..stop by for the Sit and Sew. The next one is August 22 at 10am. I won’t be there (working….got patients to care for) but Karen will be. You can make the table runner if you want to or just take advantage of the time away from the house and do anything. I worked on pillowcases and made a strip quilt…..it was good to have people there who had experience so I could ask questions. 

 

Besides, time with the girls is always good.
